Coming off arguably the worst loss in the NBA this season, the New Orleans Hornets look to rebound against the Utah Jazz, a team they have not had much recent success against.
The Jazz have won 7 of the last 8 meetings between the two teams. New Orleans’ lone win in those games came in 2008.
For the Hornets, it has been a hugely successful start to the season. After an offseason that often looked like they may lose their franchise cornerstone in Chris Paul, New Orleans has the 3rd best record in the NBA. Their 3 game winning streak was snapped in Los Angeles on Monday as the NBA’s worst team, the Clippers, rallied to beat them. Despite the loss, fans haven’t had much to complain about.
Chris Paul has been superb at running the show, like usual. He ranks 2nd in the NBA in assists, and 11th in 3-point field goal percentage. His 48.4 percent showing from deep is easily the best of his career. His supporting cast has been excellent, with David West leading the way. West leads the team with 18.8 points per game while chipping in 6.6 rebounds. First-year Hornet Marco Belinelli is chipping in 12.8 points and 2.0 made threes per contest, and big man Emeka Okafor is averaging his usual double double, checking in at 10.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
The Utah Jazz have had a similarly successful beginning to their season. They enter the game at 10-5, 2nd in the Northwest Read more »
The Milwaukee Bucks will travel to Cleveland tonight to take on the Cavaliers. Milwaukee has a record of 5-8, which places them 4th in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. Cleveland has a record of 5-8, which places them 5th in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. Both teams are in need of a win in this game, as both Milwaukee and Cleveland have dropped their last three games.
Offensively, Milwaukee is abysmal. They are dead last in the NBA in points per game, as they average just 91.4 points per game. They do a good job of rebounding, though, as they average 44.6 rebounds per game. Brandon Jennings is having another great year, as he is averaging 17.3 points, 5.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. The problem is, he simply does not have much help. The Bucks really need Andrew Bogut back in the lineup, but he is doubtful for this game as he continues to deal with a back injury. Before his injury, he was averaging 11.6 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. In order to be a contender, Milwaukee really needs another solid scorer like Jennings.
Milwaukee’s defense is a polar opposite of its anemic offense. They are 1st in the NBA in points allowed, as they give up just 91.1 points per game. Although they lost their last game to Oklahoma City, they held them to just 82 points in the game. In fact, they Read more »
The Pacers will be coming back to their home floor from perhaps their most remarkable victory of the year. The Cavaliers would probably accept any kind of victory they are able to acquire right this moment.
Dropping 4 of their previous 5, Cleveland will attempt snap out of their skid by carrying on with their current good results at Conseco Fieldhouse on Tuesday evening.
Indiana (6-6) has gone back and forth on victories & losses within their previous 7 matches however had been very happy to carry on that routine Monday evening. Shortly after a loss to the Magic on their home court on Saturday; the Pacers rebounded having a 93-77 victory over the Heat on Monday evening, restricting Heat All Star guard Wade with a personal worst 1 for 13 shooting. Granger & Brandon Rush got 20 points each to direct the Pacers.
The Cavs (5-7) are returning from a couple of losses away from home to the League’s top dogs. Just one evening following losing 108-101 to New Orleans, the Cavs dropped another 116-92 on Sat vs. the Spurs on their home court.
As bad defense has done in the Cavs within the previous 2 games, an lack of scoring sealed the Cavs fate during a 99-85 loss on their court to Indiana on November 13th. Granger put in a
high for the year 34 points for the Pacers during that matchup, as Jamison got a Cavs's best nineteen, who only threw up 38.6% shooting.
Granger, putting in 21.2 points this year, also put in 36 points in the previous years’ last matchup with the Cavs, a 116-113 victory on the road April 9. Cleveland is centered on restricting him with good defense this time around.
As the Cavs has dropped sequential games within the all round series, it has picked up 6 of 7 playing on the Pacer’s home court. During their previous trip, the Cavs kept Indiana to 33.7% shooting & Granger to 13 points within a 94-73 rout January 29th.
The Pacers are attempting to pick up victories in straight games for the 2nd occasion this year. The 1st couple of victories also came on back to back evenings, October 29th & 30th versus the Bobcats & 76ers.
You are seeing a real masterful showdown between two great coach in Stan Van Gundy for the Orlando Magic and Avery Johnson for the New Jersey Nets. The Nets are having a little trouble closing out games early in the season and the young team may not have mastered some of the key defensive principles that Johnson wants to instill in them, but they are certainly making progress. The team had such a disastrous year last year, nearly breaking the NBA record for least wins in a season at one juncture that it is hard to believe that such an experience didn’t permanently damage young guys like Brook Lopez from a basketball confidence stand point long term.
The Magic still have Vince Carter who will be out there trying to prove to his former team, the Nets that he can still get the job done. Carter has been rejuvenated it seems since he came to the Magic last year. Many people think he has largely outplayed Magic forward Rashard Lewis. Lewis happens to one of the highest paid players in the league so surely Magic fans will be looking for more product from him. Lewis should be able to take care of some fairly sub par defenders in Travis Outlaw and others. Outlaw has to become a better on the ball defender given the amount of money that the Nets paid him in the offseason from Portland. Outlaw simply can not get by on his natural talent alone as he happens to get older.
The Nets are also hoping that Derrick Favors turns into the Dwight Howard of the future or anything close to it. The Nets have some people in the front court Read more »
The Memphis Grizzlies visit the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California on November 03, 2010. The Grizzlies are coming off back to back games after visiting the Los Angeles Lakers yesterday down in Anaheim, California. Despite it being a back to back, the team should be somewhat rested having been trounced 124 to 105 and sitting many of their starters for the majority of the 4th quarter.
The Grizzlies record entering tonight’s road game stands at 1-1 on the road and 2-2 overall. Coached by Lionel Hollins, the Grizzlies rely on leading scorer Rudy Gay who is averaging 24.3 points per game and big man Marc Gasol who is averaging a double double with 10.7 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game. They face a Warriors team that is 2-0 at home and 2-1 overall. The Warriors are still in the process of undergoing an ownership change from Chris Cohan to a group led by venture capitalist, Joe Lacob. The team also is sporting new uniforms, a new court design and has a new head coach in Keith Smart, who replaced all time wins leader Don Nelson a few days before training camp started.
While the Grizzlies have been without all-star big man Zach Randolph who suffered a bruised tailbone in the season opener, he was able to participate in yesterday’s pregame shoot around and may be available tonight. However, that’s not the biggest news coming out of Memphis these days. The topic around the city (and throughout the NBA world) has centered around Point Guard Mike Conley’s new Read more »
The Dallas Mavericks will be making the trip to Denver for a match up against Carmelo Anthony and the Nuggets. Currently the Mavericks stand at 2-1 and are ranked second in the Southwest division. Led by aging, yet still elite Dirk Nowitzki they look to take another step up the ladder and build some early season momentum that they hope will carry them deep into the playoffs. Nowitkis’ 23.7 PPG leads the team, followed by battle tested veteran Jason Terry at 16.7 PPG. The team is anxiously awaiting the return of second year man Roddy Beaubois, who remains in a walking boot, with no set time line to return. Beaubois adds another dimension to a team that is often predictable on offense, and while the teams is coping decently with the lack of his versatility his return promises to turn the Maverick offense from simply good into explosive. While the Mavericks have looked to be in overall good shape they defiantly could use more play makers coming off the bench, and more consistent play from their starters. The team has shown the kind of skill to be a contender, but hasn’t shown the kind of dominance needed in a true championship team. Dallas hasn’t been getting much play out of their rookies, for the team to attain their goals the younger players on the team will need to step up their games.
The Denver Nuggets also stand at 2-1 and are ranked second in the northwest division. Led by all star Carmelo Anthony the Nuggets are looking to improve upon last years play off appearance. With returning stars Chauncey Billups, and Al Harrington round out Denver’s offensive big three. First year man Sheldon Williams has also given a healthy contribution to the teams scoring, despite limited playing time. Denver has all the tools and experience to be successful, however Denver has had trouble finishing the season strong. With Anthonys’ future with the in doubt this may be Denver’s best shot at a championship before having to move into the rebuilding phase. Denver has good depth along the bench, but is still looking for the team chemistry needed to be a lock to win.
These teams in many ways are nearly mirror images Read more »
